ACE conducts the commercial operations of museums and ruins affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey. Responsible for over 180 museums and archeological sites throughout the country, ACE contributes to the cultural publicity and display of Turkey with its wide variety of gift offers at on-site shops.
Excited to create an overarching visual language that will replace the outdated merchandise and to offer visitors design-led alternatives instead of the classic souvenirs, we partnered with ACE for the design + manufacturing of garments sold at the on-site museum shops of over 20 significant cultural locations. The challenge was to appeal to a wide target audience and their distinct aesthetic preferences while conserving the main function of the existence of the garments, which is publicity of cultural heritage.
Reflect Studio started by focusing on the most significant symbols that belong to an archeological site or a city and designed the collection around playful illustrations and colours. Designs that belonged to a certain series were titled accordingly and applied onto collars and backs of t-shirts. The studio’s QR codes that were used to show the manufacturing process behind a product were this time directed to web pages where visitors could scan and learn more about the background historical and cultural information of the designs.
The outcome is youthful, playful and minimal collections of gift-shop merchandise that apply to aesthetics of wide target audiences and modern presentation of the cultural heritage of Turkey.
